Canon Power Shot G7X Mark II
Alternatively, Emma uses a Canon alternative for this purpose. Mark II’s burst shooting is faster, especially when capturing Raw photographs, which was a significant letdown on the original model. The Mark I could only shoot Raw bursts at 1 fps, but the Mark II can now shoot RAWs, JPEGs, and even both simultaneously at 8 fps. Also improved were subject identification and tracking according to Canon, which wasn’t a strong point of the original model.
The G7 X II has “Dual Sensing IS”, which is similar to Dual IS in that it combines information from the image sensor (in addition to gyro-scoping sensors) to minimize blur caused by camera shake. According to Canon, this system is more effective than on the G7 X, with the potential for reducing shake by four stops. There’s also a new panning IS mode that adjusts the shutter speed so that your subject appears “frozen”.
In terms of image quality, the Digic 7 processor includes new sharpening and high ISO noise reduction algorithms. Later in the review, we’ll see how that affects things.
The G7 X’s biggest issue, perhaps, was battery life, which was enhanced by 25% to 265 shots per charge (CIPA standard). Even with this increase, the Canon, nevertheless, falls behind the Sony RX100s and Panasonic Lumix ZS100/TZ100.
